
Bird Species

Because of the great variation of habitat the area supports over 300 species of birds of which 110 are endemic or near endemic.
The forest has a limited number of bird species most of which are endemic.
The estuaries lakes and beaches have a great variety of waders, ducks, grebes, terns, rails and warblers.
Many
of these are visitors and the resident species are common through most of
Africa.
The Karoo despite its semi desert
habitat is home to nearly to 200 bird species, many which are endemics.
